By Jim Fremouw, DIRT Pro Stock Series Reporter Hogansburg, NY — August 20, 2005 — The Stacker 2® Pro Stock Super DIRT Series raced back into action at the ultra-fast Frogtown Int’l Speedway on Saturday night in a 35-lap East Region series stop with Joey Ladouceur from Alexandria, Ontario, Canada making a last lap charge under hometrack hero Allen Peters exiting turn four to claim the victory by mere inches at the stripe. The victory for the defending Hoosier Tire/Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRT Pro Stock champion was the first Series victory of the season and seventh career overall worth a $600 top prize as well as a guaranteed starting spot in the Pro Stock Championship at the N.Y.S. Fairgrounds on Oct. 9 during Super DIRT Week XXXIV. Although overcast weather conditions threatened the action-packed night of racing at the speedway, a beautifully prepared racing surface greeted the fans and drivers leading to an exciting event from green to checkers for the full-fender warriors. P.J. Peters and Travis Back led a stout 19-car field to the drop of the initial green flag with Peters racing into the top spot hoping to take his second series victory in as many years at the speedway he calls home. Ladouceur followed right in Peters' tires tracks racing into second under Back. The first of seven yellow flags flew on lap two as Tom Kuck did a complete 360-degree spin on the backstretch resulting in several competitors coming together with the Billy King machine spinning off the speedway and coming to rest in the very wet area on top of the speedway. As the green flag flew for the restart, Ladouceur won the drag race into turn #1 taking the lead away from Peters. The two lead machines then proceeded to put a five car-length advantage over the third, fourth and fifth-place running vehicles of Mitchell Jock, Clayton Benedict and Back before the car of Jody Swamp slowed on the racing surface resulting in a caution on lap six. When action resumed on the speedway, Mitchell Jock flexed his muscles as he raced by Peters to take over the second position and apply the pressure on Ladouceur for the top spot. The two then began to pull away from the field as they engaged in their own battle for the lead. A trio of caution periods slowed the event on lap 13 with the first a result of a spinning Johnny Yandow Jr. on top of turn four with Rick Spencer slowing to avoid contact. As the green was displayed for the restart, Ladouceur and Jock raced hard into turn one making contact with Jock’s machine coming out the worst of the two as his potent ride moved to the top of turn two and to a stop. Jock nursed his wounded machine back to the pit area and returned without losing a lap. The yellow flag flew for the third time on lap 13 as the Casey Swamp machine experienced mechanical woes to send him into a spin exiting turn four for the restart. With racing conditions back under green, Ladouceur motored back to the front of the pack as the Peters brothers, P.J. and Allen, battled for second and third with Allen taking away the spot. At the halfway point of the event, Ladouceur continued to lead with Allen Peters right on the leader's rear bumper and P.J. Peters, Benedict and Back making up the top-five. Back’s top-five run came to an end on lap 20 as he slowed on the speedway and headed pitside under green flag conditions. Billy King, steering the car normally piloted by William Adams, moved into the top-five to continue his rally after the early race mishap. Debris on the speedway on lap 21 slowed the action once again and when the green flag flew for the restart, Allen Peters moved to the top side of the speedway. The high line seemed to be the quickest groove on the speedway all evening and Peters sped by Ladouceur to take away the top spot. Although being relegated to the second position, Ladouceur was not going to let Allen race away as he stayed right with the leader. The two then put on a superb battle for the lead that fans would not soon forget throughout the remainder of the event. The final caution of the event flew on lap 24 for the slowing car of Stacker 2® Pro Stock Super DIRT Series East point’s leader Louie Jackson. Jackson reported to the pits and raced back onto the speedway before the drop of the green. The final 11 laps were run off caution-free but certainly not action-free as Allen Peters and Joey Ladouceur battled side-by-side for the lead with Allen continuing to hold back Ladouceur as the laps ticked off. Meanwhile, P.J. Peters lurked right behind the two leaders but was not able to mount a charge as the race wound down. King continued his charge through the pack as he took over the fourth position with Benedict now racing into fifth. Allen Peters and Ladouceur began to move away from the rest of the pack setting up a last lap showdown. The two leaders battled side-by-side the final five laps with Peters using the preferred high line and Ladouceur down on the low side each time with Peters able to maintain a slim advantage at the start/finish line. When the white flag flew to signal one lap to go, Peters continued to run his high line with Ladouceur having to stick his car down low. As the pair entered turn three, Peters slipped a little too high allowing Ladouceur to dive under the front-running machine as they exited turn four. Peters' momentum looked like it would carry him by Ladouceur for the victory, but Ladouceur found the much needed bite to maintain the slightest advantage as the pair crossed the line for the checkers behind the wheel of his Mini Max Transportation-Leisure Days RV Center-CRT Race Cars & Parts #92.1 Chevrolet Monte Carlo/CRT chassis. P.J. Peters held on for third with Billy King and Clayton Benedict rounding out the front-five at the checkers. The Stacker 2® Pro Stock Super DIRT Series continues its northern trek with a Combined Region 50-lap event at Cornwall Motor Speedway in Cornwall, Ontario Canada on August 21. Canandaigua (NY) Speedway follows up that action three days later on Tue., August 24, with a 25-lap West Region finale in a doubleheader with 358-Modified Super DIRT series to close out the month of August. Although the team scrambled to try to make repairs, it wasn’t meant to be for the driver who is a rookie on the touring series in 2005. Grant, who pilots the Jacob's Excavation-R.P.S. Performance-Webb's Collision-2 Good Motorsports #77g Chevrolet Monte Carlo/Spraker chassis, currently sits 12th in East Region markers despite missing the contest. He is also currently 17th in Combined points. *Several drivers made their initial start for the 2005 racing season including Pembroke, Ontario Canada’s Todd Raabe, 2000 Stacker 2® Pro Stock Super DIRT Series race winner Billy King and 1999 Hoosier Tire/Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRT Pro Stock champion Tom Kuck. Kuck will also be in competition at Cornwall, Ontario the following evening in a very limited scheduled appearance. “We have a ride tentatively scheduled for the Pro Stock Championship at the N.Y.S. Fairgrounds during Super DIRT Week but at this point, it looks like the three appearances will be my only stops of 2005,” Kuck explained. “It’s tough not having a DIRT-sanctioned speedway to compete on down my way so I’ve decided to take a break and spend some much needed family time with my wife (Linda) and my 12 year-old son (Ryan). They've been very important and are even more important to me now so I’m enjoying my time with them in the interim.” Although Kuck started out strong on the evening behind the wheel of his CarQuest Auto Parts-Whispering Pines #79 Chevrolet Monte Carlo/Cannizzaro chassis, he experienced problems in the feature and wound up 16th at the checkers. *Stacker 2® Pro Stock Super DIRT Series West Region point’s leader Pete Stefanski made a rare East Region appearance behind the Allen Peters backup ride and finishing 11th. Allen Peters and Stefanski are teammates in 2005 and it has proven to be a potent partnership for both drivers. Stefanski continues to lead all Pro Stock competitors on the DIRT circuit with 13 overall victories in 2005 including three Stacker 2® Pro Stock Super DIRT Series triumphs. Ladouceur has closed somewhat on Stefanski’s win count yet still sits five behind in second with eight overall victories including his lone Stacker 2® Pro Stock Super DIRT Series victory on this evening. *Weather conditions have been a factor for many speedways in 2005 and the streak continues. Friday’s Stacker 2® Pro Stock Super DIRT Series event at Autodrome Edelweiss fell to inclement weather and at this point has been tentatively rescheduled for September 2.
