On Saturday Night at the Merrittville Speedway Bill Willard
announced that Sunday Night at Humberstone Speedway would be the final
event in his 26th year of racing. Willard went out in true style with a
victory in the 25 lap Trails End Inc. Sportsman feature on Championship
Sunday in a program sponsored by Goit Haulage.

In the 25 lap Trails End Sportsman feature it took 3 attempts to
get the main event under way as final night nerves got the best of the
23 car starting field. Rookie Dave Dykstra led for several laps from the
start with Dennis Giancola giving chase along with Bill Willard and
points leader Rob Ledingham. Lap 15 Willlard made a beautiful move take
advantage of the rookie and overpowering Dykstra for the lead that would
help him claim the popular win. Next in line was Dykstra, Ledingham,
Bill Bleich and Stan Zanchin. The heats were won by George Bosse, Don
Spiece and Dykstra. 4 yellows and 1 red slowed Willards pace. The Lucas
Oil Dash for cash was held with Rob Knapp taking home $500 over
Willard, Dereck Lemyre, Dykstra, Nic Cupolo, and Jeff Leggett. The dash
was a result of Humberstone defeating Ohsweken Speedway in a tire
changing competition at both tracks.

In the 15 lap Kendal Oil Mini Stock feature, Rob Ovrholt and
Tony Kelly led the fied to the green with Kelly as the leader as he
would hold off a hard charging Trevor Goulding for most of the feature
to gain his first ever feature win. The win was also a celebration of
his birthday and followed up by Wife Diane who claimed the 50/50 prize
of $850.00. Next in line was Trevor Goulding, Charlie Lynch, Norm Mark,
and Rob Goulding. Mark claimed the lone heat win.

In the Non Point Brian's Tire Repair Street Stok feature, Kirk
Wilson took the lead from the start ad became a great 3 car chase with
Wison leading with Dolf Mc Cready and Brian Kovats in tow. This battle
went on for several laps with Wilson holding on to the lead. Lap 14
Kovats got loose in turn 3 but made a bonzai move on lap 16 to the
ouside but would also prove to be hs downfall as Kovats was tapped in
the rear by Mc Cready and they slowed giving room to the outside for
Steve Robison to make the pass for 2nd in the remaining laps in what
turned out to be one of the more entertaining races of the season with
Wilson claiming the win in just his 3rd start of the season. Next was
Robison, Mc Cready, Kevin Knapp, and Len Wiley. Wilson and Kovats won
the heats.

In the 12 lap Niagara Auto Sales Truck feature, Dave Bitner most
of the earlt going brfore giving way on a lap 5 restart to Kevin O'Bey
following a lap 4 yellow as Mark Airhardt was black flagged for contact
with point leader John Low. O' Bey went on to claim his 2nd win of the
season. Bitner was next followed by Low, Ed Mc Namara, and James Horton.
Bitner also took the heat win.

In the 20 lap Micro Sprint feature Jerry Gurney took the lead from
the start but would hold the lead for 3 laps when the red flew for Tom
Mahar who rolled off turn 1 but was aok. Jim Lafler took the lead on the
restart and would hold off Dan Miller for several laps than he would
also out race Ryan Gamble for the win. Next in line after Lafler and
Gamble was Dan Miller, Rodger Fidler and Gurney. Miller won the lone
heat.
