PETERBOROUGH, ON - Prior to Sunday afternoon's CASCAR PowerWater Series season finale at
Kawartha Speedway, it had been a full year since Jason Hathaway had participated in a CASCAR
Sportsman Series race. The Appin, ON racer showed he hadn't lost his touch as he led all 100 laps on
Sunday, making it two straight wins at the 3/8-mile Peterborough-area oval.
Hathaway's Fordham Motors / TSC Stores Chevy started on the outside of the front row in the 25-
car field and charged to the lead almost immediately. After that, the talented youngster - who raced this
season in the weekly division at Delaware Speedway near London, ON - maintained the lead through five
restarts and came home more than a second in front of four-time Sportsman Series champ Steve Robblee,
of Dorchester, ON.
The final podium position at Kawartha went to Dion Verhoeven, driver of the McRoberts Fuels
Chevy. The result earned the Kenwood, ON racer his first CASCAR Sportsman Series championship.
Verhoeven was solid throughout the six-race schedule, earning a pair of pole positions and one race
victory (on Aug. 13 at Barrie Speedway) en route to the title.
Second-place in the championship chase was a tie between 2004 PowerWater Series champ Brad
Graham (HB Material Handling Dodge) and Robblee (Grogan Ford). They each accumulated 475 points,
which was 25 markers less than Verhoeven (500).
Ron Lethbridge (Fuel Genie Dodge) started fourth at Kawartha but was involved in an incident
that left him 21st at the finish. Nonetheless, Lethbridge was honoured, after the race, for being the top
rookie on the CASCAR Sportsman Tour in '05.
