Weedsport, NY - August 19, 2007 - By Gary M. Spaid, Cayuga County Fair Speedway PR Former Weedsport track champions Danny Johnson and Tim Fuller bested a stellar field en route to $3,000 victories on Sunday in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series as they split DIRT Hall of Fame Classic Big-Block Modified Twin 53s presented by Owasco Beverage, Budweiser and Labatt at Cayuga County Fair Speedway. Jeremy Pitcher picked up his fourth DIRTcar Sportsman Modified feature Sunday on Aramark night, winning the 25-lap race that was sandwiched between Twin 53 Advance Auto Parts Series events. held over from last Memorial Day Weekend as part of the annual Hall of Fame Inductions. In other racing action at Cayuga County Fair Speedway it was Dave Mannise also picking up feature win number four on the season at Cayuga County. Bill Werner topped the BattleKarz main event while Jim Morgan won the special New York Modified Midget 20-lapper. Johnson took advantage of the first yellow flag on lap 37 to erase a 2.5-second advantage by leader Jimmy Phelps, then swept around the team Troyer driver three laps later and held off a late bid by Advance Auto Parts Series points leader Brett Hearn to score his fourth tour victory of the season. Phelps maintained third despite a lap 52 caution period bunching the field, with Steve Paine and Fuller filling out the front-five. "I didn't think I'd get Jimmy tonight but the caution got me on his bumper and I just muscled my way through there," said Johnson, following both his fourth win of the year at Cayuga County and on the Advance Auto Parts Series. "This was a real good run for our team and I can't thank Dave (Thompson, owner) enough for getting us here in victory lane." Johnson drew to invert the top-8 finishers from the first 53-lapper, and when the green flag flew to begin round two, front row starter Billy Dunne out-gunned pole-sitter Justin Haers to set the early pace. Fourth-place starter Fuller needed 23 laps to track down Dunn before scoring his second Advance Auto Parts Series win in two nights to pull ahead of Brett Hearn by 10 markers in the tour point standings through 20 races. Billy Decker settled for third-place in front of Phelps and Haers. "We really haven't been that good here since '04 and '05, last year was kind of mediocre so to come in here against the series competition and pull out a win is really great," said Fuller, who overtook Brett Hearn for the tour points lead through 20 Advance Auto Parts Series races. "This series is just so hard to keep everything going and keep up with the maintenance and all the travel. If it wasn't for John Lazore and the whole crew I couldn't come out here and have fun." Dunn's 7th-place finish in the opener earned him preferred starter status in the prestigious Rite Aid 200 Championship race on Oct. 7 of Super DIRT Week XXXVI at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse while Haers top-five run in the nightcap also gave him a preferred spot in DIRTcar NorthEast's biggest event. Pitcher took the lead from John Juhl II after a thrilling move through turns three and four that saw him first run high and then cut low and back to the center to slice by a lap car and Juhl II. "I love this place," stated Pitcher in his victory lane interview. "I usually start pretty far back so I like these 25-lappers because there's time to sort things out. I tried the bottom but after that I had to go where the others weren't to get to the front. Juhl had led from the drop of the green. Four yellows slowed the racing action. On lap four cars spun together in the first turn to mainly block the turn. A second multi-car accident took place on lap 13, when Rob Richmond Jr. ended up on the inside guard rail in the second turn. The other two yellows were for minor spin outs on lap seven and 18. Up front it was Pitcher leading the way followed by Juhl, Mike Mahaney, Todd Town and Alan Fink. The Street Stocks ran a 20-lap feature race only. Mike Dandino was the early leader but gave up the lead to James Wallace on lap five. Wallace was then passed three laps later by eventual race winner Dave Mannise, who brought the field to the checkers followed by Phil Marsden, Nick Rizzo, Steve Woodworth and Nathan Peckham. The Modified Midgets joined the card with a 20-lap feature event. At the drop of the green it was Jim Radney taking over the lead and there he remained until Jim Morgan passed him on lap six. Morgan would go on to win this feature followed by Ryan Jordan, Erick Rudolph, Nick Cooper and Tutor Kyser. This Sunday will see the BattleKarz return for one of their final regular shows of the 2007 season. They will be in a special "Thrill Show" featuring soccer mom van races and other wild action.
