Wins on Economy Paving Night at The New Humberstone Speedway
Brandon Easey beat out 40 Cosco Haulage Sportsman cars to win his first ever
All Canadian Championship at The New Humberstone Speedway, sponsored by
Economy Paving. Easey, took the lead from 99C of Cupolo on lap 27 of the 50
lap event. With the 06 leading and the 99C now in 2nd place. All eyes were
on the 18R of Brad Rouse who was finding major bite on the outside line, but
after a couple of great tries to beat the 99C and the 99P of Panunte, the
18r of Rouse faded a little towards the back and ended up with a 7th place
finish. Top 5 were Brandon Easey, Nick Cupolo, Greg Panunte, Mike Bowman,
and Mat Williamson. (Heat Winners were Greg Panunte, Brandon Easey, Rob
Knapp and Rob Pratt)
In the Brian's Tire Repair Streetstock Division it was "Silly Billy Hogue"
who captured his first ever All Canadian win. Hogue stated in his front
stretch interview with announcer Jim Handley, that he "wanted to win an All
Canadian race since he started racing", and stating "This win means a lot to
me". The 48H of Bill Hogue took over the lead on lap 14 of the 30 lap event,
when the 1J of Jason Fontaine who lead the first 14 laps, went a bit too
high in turn 2 and allowed the 48H to pass him for the top spot. Kevin Knapp
was having a good run in 2nd until there was a 3 way battle for 3rd place.
Cars got a little tight and the 4K was involved in a caution and having to
start tail on the next green. The 310C of Mike Dooley now in 2nd place and
giving Hogue a run for the money while the M1 of Brad Sheehan working his
way to the 3rd place spot. Top 5 were Bill Hogue, Mike Dooley, Brad Sheehan,
Shayne Pierce and Jason Fontaine. (Heat Winners were Jeremy Bean, Alan
Sleight and Jaren Israel)
In the Niagara Auto Sales Pro 4 Truck Division it was Kevin Aube who claimed
the 25 lap event beating out a record number of 18 trucks for the victory.
Aube had to work his way around 2007 champ Ed McNamara, and the 711 of James
Horton. Ed McNamara lead for most of the race, until he got mangled up with
some lap traffic giving the first place spot to Aube and McNamara having to
go last after being involved in the caution. Scary Moment for Hilary Haegens
who joined the exclusive "Humberstone Rollover Club" , Haegens who took a
wild ride in turn 4, Haegens was able to get out of her truck and tried to
continue on with the race, but eventually had to take it pit side. Top 5
were Kevin Aube, James Horton, Don Lessard, Rick Beales and Rick Book. )
Heat Winners were Andy Imbeault, Yeroon Van Leeuwan)
It was the big guy Save Small who can chalk up an All Canadian Victory to
his racing portfolio. The 67s took the lead from current point's leader
Garnet Wilson early on in the race and by lap 3 both of the front runners
were having to deal with lap traffic. Once the 67S found his way out front,
he left the 71 of Wilson and the 43 of Matt Deschamps to battle for the 2ns
place spot. Weird moment on lap 19 when the 07 of Aaron Wiley was involved
in a caution, he pulled into the pits and his wife followed him in his 7W
car. The 7W car reemerged some time later and officials pulled the car over
and realized it was Aaron Wiley who had switched cars half way thru the
race, Wiley was sent into the pits. Top 5 were Dave Small, Garnet Wilson,
Matt Deschamps, Rob Goulding and Ron Cosco. (Heat Winners were Ed McLean,
Aaron Wiley and Lee Winger)
The Ontario Dirt Late Models were on hand for the first and only visit to
the New Humberstone Speedway in the 2008 season. 21 cars were on hand for
the 25 lap event. Early leader after the green flag was dropped was Doug
Ricotta, out of Warsaw, NY. Hometown boy Adam Ferri hanging back behind the
leader, waiting to make his move. Ferri who has won numerous championships
at the speedway in the Modstock division, and knowing the track all too
well. The 01 and the 1F battling it out front. The 1F trying to take the
inside and get his nose under the 1 car both trying to use the inside lane.
Lap 8 seen had heartache for the hometown favorite; Ferri broke along the
front stretch. With the 01 out in front there was a 2 way battle for second
between 2 of Chad Valone and the 18 of Chris Ross. After the last caution
the 99 Rick "Boom" Briggs took over the lead sending the 01 to second. Top 5
were Rick "Boom" Briggs, Chad Valone, Doug Ricotta, Chris Ross and Greg
Oakes. (Heat Winners were Doug Ricotta, Chad Valone and Jim Dale)
Terry McNeil won the Weekend Motorsports Pure Stock Division beating out 10
other cars for the top spot. The 9 car of McNeil had a comfortable lead over
the 7S of Chris Crawford and 3rd place car Brad Booker. Tough break for
Booker who slowed along the front stretch and eventually had to take it pit
side. Top 5 were Chris Crawford, Joe Benincasa, Rob Goulden, Mike Greene
(Heat Winner was Chris Crawford)
